Alcoholism Stories and Drug Addiction Stories

Welcome to this massively popular section of this website – addiction and alcoholism stories written by people like you.

If you’re reading this – alcoholism or drug addiction has probably had a major impact on your life. It might be that:

  • You personally are currently struggling with an addiction to alcohol or drugs
  • You’re married to or in a relationship with an alcoholic or addict
  • A family member like a mother, father, child, brother, sister you love dearly is suffering from an addiction
  • You've gone through the tragic experience of losing someone you love to their addiction
  • You or someone you love has managed to 'come out the other side' - and so you have a 'success' or recovery story to share
To Share Your Story - Go Here

Read the Stories Others Have Shared By Going Here

So whatever your situation, it’s likely you’ve been deeply affected by alcohol or drugs. Rather than carry the burden of what you’re going through then, please share your story. Or if you've managed to overcome an addiction to alcohol or drugs, tell us what you went through and how you got to where you are now.

I read a really nice quote recently that sums up why sharing your story can be such a positive, uplifting and cathartic experience ...

“Telling your story is medicine for the spirit and healing for the soul”

Something happens when you share your story, especially when you write it down that is difficult to quantify, but has a deep and lasting effect nonetheless. Writing your story allows you to connect with yourself in the deepest way – you get a chance to know who you are and what you think.

But sharing your story isn’t only good for you. Your story can make a real difference to those who read it – because it only takes one person to identify with what you’ve shared for them to be touched or influenced in ways you’ll never know.

Here’s another great quote that I got from the “Book of Awakening” by Mark Nepo that shows why sharing and listening (or reading) to each other’s stories can be so powerful:

"It seems that the ancient Medicine Men understood that listening to another’s story somehow gives us the strength of example to carry on, as well as showing us aspects of ourselves we can’t easily see. For listening to the stories of others ... is a kind of water that breaks the fever of our isolation. If we listen closely enough, we are soothed into remembering our common name."

So, please share your story and tell us how alcoholism or drug addiction has affected you ...and if you read someone elses story, please leave a comment showing your support and encouragement.

And once you've told your story, please take a look at our new Drug and Alcohol Addiction Q & A Forum where you can participate in asking and answering questions related to alcoholism or drug addiction.

"Storytelling helps us make sense of our lives and helps us share our being." Doug Elliott

To make our vast collection of stories easier to find, we've recently added our Drug Addiction and Alcoholism Stories Archive. Here you'll find a range of stories written by people just like you on a range of topics relating to alcoholism and drug addiction. So if you're looking for inspiration, guidance, advice, or simply a story you can relate to ... you'll no doubt find it here.

What is Your Alcoholism or Drug Addiction Story?

How has alcoholism or drug addiction affected you or someone you love? Unburden and share the load by telling your story. Simply talk from the heart and tell us what you're going through ... Or tell us your 'Success' story and how you've managed to overcome your addiction and how your recovery is going for you ...
