Yes I Absolutely Feel that Alcoholism is a Disease!!!

I feel that every addiction is a disease. I have fought with obesity all my life. This is a disease and very little people will recognize this. I feel that anything that we use in excess is a disease because we are obviously trying to self medicate our bodies to make us feel satisfied. I wish that people can open their eyes and see that all addictions are a disease. People need to start understanding that just because it is self induced does not mean it it not a disease.

Interesting perspective. But many people will argue that anything we use in excess ultimately boils down to choice and something we have control over. Unlike your diseases like cancer etc. where you don't have a similar 'choice element.'

But whether or not alcoholism is a disease ... should it really matter? Your approach to treatment and recovery would essentially remain the same would it not?
