My Partner Is Addicted to Meth. We Have 6 Year Old Twins. How Do I Handle This?

Hi there. I am struggling with my partner who is using meth ... We have been together for 10 yrs and have 6 yr old twins. This is an escalating problem that started 3 yrs ago.

He says he has never been as clear headed ... that scares me! He isn't violent but his energy is really intense. I am at a loss as to how to deal with it.

You handle this by ensuring that your twins are you number one priority and that everything you do is with their best interests at heart.

So, is exposing them to a meth addicted father in their best interests? Can you guarantee they will always be safe with their father around? Is exposing them to someone who's in the middle of active addiction going to give them the best chance of growing up as happy, confident and well-adjusted kids?

I think you get the picture. You need to give your partner the choice: He either turns his life around by getting professional help for his meth addiction and does whatever it takes to stay clean - or you and the kids leave. Because you can not with a clear conscience say that bringing up your twins with someone who uses meth regularly is good for them.

Tell your partner you want him to play an active role in your twins lives - but only if he's clean. All children deserve to be brought up in a stable, loving and harmonious environment - and it's your responsibility as parent to do your best to provide them with that.

So hopefully your partner will be open to getting help and changing, but if he's not you have to find a safe and secure environment for you and your kids.
