My Decades of Life with an Incurable Alcoholic
by Sue Taylor
My husband's an incurable alcoholic who has wrecked a lot of lives. His own, his children's and mine. But he doesn't seem to care about what he's done. AnswerI'm sure you husband has wrecked a lot of lives and caused untold pain and damage to you and your children especially. That's what alcoholism does because his relationship with alcohol does unfortunately take priority above all else. And unless your husband wants to do something about his problem and get the necessary help and treatment, there isn't a lot you can do. However, remember that even though you may not be able to control what your husband does, you still have the power to control your life and the decisions you ultimately make. At the end of the day, we all have to take responsibility for our own happiness and the choices we make. So think on the kind of life you would like going forward and what you believe would bring you peace and happiness, and then aim to go out and achieve that. Now I'm not for one minute saying it's easy, but it's never too late to make changes, and I don't believe anyone should settle for a life they're unhappy in.
