My Boyfriend Abuses Drugs and Alcohol ... and is Checking in to Rehab

by Katt
(Canada)

My boyfriend is on his way to a rehab center tomorrow. He stayed off his usual drug crack but slipped up on the alcohol last night and the night before. Will he be tested for drugs and alcohol at this rehab center right away? Will he be rejected? I'm not sure and I can't find any info on this topic.

Answer

Hi Katt

Drug and Alcohol Rehabs don't usually mind if you check in high or drunk - because that's why they're there, to help you get sober and clean up your act.

But if you're caught using once the program has started, they tend to be quite strict about that, so chances are you would get kicked out for that. Some programs also have weekend passes whereby you're allowed home on weekends (after you've been there a while first), so might test you once you come back from the weekend, and wouldn't be too tolerant if your test results were negative.

So if your boyfriend is simply checking in to a rehab to begin his drug and alcohol addiction treatment program, I wouldn't worry too much about that. They'll likely put him on a monitored detox program to begin with, and then let him commence with his program in full after that.

Glad to hear he's taking positive action for his addictions. Best of luck to you both.
