Approximately How Many American's Have a Drinking Problem???

I'm doing a research paper and am interested in how many people have a drinking problem. I realize that there is a huge difference in how many people who "have" a drinking problem vs. those who "think" they have a drinking problem.

Answer

I think that's a hugely difficult question to quantify exactly - because there are no doubt huge numbers of people who have a drinking problem, but have not yet admitted to it or sought any form of help. So how would they be accounted for?

According to nlm.nih.gov however, 17.6 million adults have a drinking problem in the US. And that figure doesn't even factor in the rapidly growing problem of teenage alcoholism.

So the figures are worryingly huge. Hope that helps.
