Alcoholic Son: Providing Financial Support?
Should I provide financial support to a middle aged alcoholic son who has lost his job and about to "bottom out", or would this just delay the process? AnswerIf you want to support him - buy him the necessities he needs to survive on a daily basis. Basics, food etc. But don't give him cash - he's likely to simply blow most of it on alcohol. If he's an alcoholic, he needs to get professional help, and he'll only be open to doing that once he 'bottoms out' as you say. Giving money just enables an alcoholic. So tell him you'll support him with basic survival necessities - provided he goes for proper alcoholism addiction treatment. Good Luck. Click here to read or post comments. |
